Hillary Swank and Richard Gere have teamed up for the movie Amelia, based on Amelia Earhart’s story. Although filming began April 2008, it is still in production and is due out October 2009.
I think Swank was a fine choice to portray Earhart, but feel this movie should not have been made as it focuses on the early stages of Earhart’s career, and how she is chosen to be the first female pilot to attempt the nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean (snooze). In my opinion, some things are better left as documentaries.
Nonetheless, the movie is based on Susan Butler’s book “East to the Dawn,” Mary Lovell’s “The Sound of the Wings” and Elgin Long’s “Amelia Earhart: The Mystery Solved.” Screenplay written by Ron Bass, co-produced by Hillary Swank, Ron Bass and Don Cormody and directed by Mira Nair.
