One of my favorite things about the film Made in Italy is that – well, normally Liam Neeson portrays a father in all of his action films (with the exception of Cold Persuit where Richardson made an appearance as Neeson’s son). In the case of Made in Italy – Neeson plays a real dad to his biological son Michael Richardson, who by the way changed his last name to honor his mother – Natasha Richardson. Who passed away in 2009 from a freakish ski accident.
The other thing I have to suggest is that the film is pretty slow paced, almost a reminder of Under the Tuscan Sun, Cinema Paradiso and A Good Year combined – but you know what, it worked, and with mind wide open, it was wonderful to see Neeson’s softer side flourish in this comedic but sad story of a father and son connection after the loss of their wife and mother.
