The Reader

Set in post WWII Germany, the story is about a lawyer’s (Ralph Fieness)recollection of his affair with an older woman (Kate Winslett) several decades earlier, then his re-encounter with his former lover as she defends herself in a war-crime trial and faces imprisonment thereafter. Although the contents of the movie are disturbing and difficult to watch for some due to the sexual scenes between a child and an adult, it is a beautiful love story told in the most heartbreaking way. Kate Winslet’s performance is nothing extraordinary nor is it Oscar worthy in my opinion. It is an interesting movie to watch and would probably suit more mature audiences.
