The movie is set during the turn of the century (Belle Epoque) in Paris 1920. The story begins with Lea (Michelle Pfeiffer) contemplating retirement from her post of an envied seductress to the rich and famous. However, a former courtesan and arch rival, Charlotte Peloux (Kathy Bates), asks Lea for one last favor before retirement and that is to teach her 19 year-old son Chéri (Rupert Friend) a thing or two about women. As the story unfolds, we experience through Lea and Cheri power struggles over sex, money, age and society and a bit of love among other things no doubt.
Director Stephen Frears (“The Queen”) and screenwriter Christopher Hampton (“Atonement”) team up to bring the story to the screen. This movie shows opening June 19th and the 26th in different entertainment news sites. I am curious to see how this movie will do, I don’t get chemistry between Pfeiffer and Friend, but I do like the storyline.
