Can a movie about dysfunctional family life get any better than this? I ask as I tag my calendar for July 7, 2010 to see the movie “The Kids Are All Right.”
The story is about two kids, conceived through artificial insemination, who decide to find and bring their birth father into their life in order to get to know him. The catch is when he comes around to discover the kids are being raised by a lesbian couple.
Now there is one point for originality and another one for having the guts to put such a sensitive subject matter on the screen. Lisa Cholodenko did just that by writing and directing the movie “The Kids Are All Right” and she, in my opinion chose the best cast to relay her story: Julianne Moore and Annette Bening as the couple, Mia Wasikovska (The Lovely Bones) and Josh Hutcherson (Journey To The Center Of The Earth) as the kids and Mark Ruffalo as the sperm donor/father.
