I stumbled upon a foreign film – 24 City, which sadly to report, seems to be scheduled for limited engagement and showing in the United States. The story is about the demise of a state owned munitions factory and its conversion to luxury high rise apartment building.
Director Jia Zhang-ke masterfully tells the story through song and the weaving together the lives of three generations of factory workers during post revolutionary China followed by the massive changes which transformed the country.
In my opinion the movie is extraordinary and most fascinating to watch. I am hopeful that it will be released to a much larger showing.
