It’s been announced that Academy Award winning film director Martin Scorsese is set to helm the biopic of Frank Sinatra. Scorsese’s renown biopic movies such as Jake La Motta, Howard Hughes, Raging Bull and Aviator are all a reminder of his love for historical figures and stories relating to Italian American identity.
As a result of his passion, directing Sinatra should bare minimal challenge and in my opinion will probably not be an Oscar worthy pic but a mere project to explore Sinatra’s life through Scorsese’s lens.
The script has been written by Phil Alden Robinson (Field of Dreams). Peter Guber and Cathy Schulman of Mandalay Pictures are producing along with Scorsese and his Sikelia Prods. The deal comes after years of negotiations with Frank Sinatra Enterprises and is scheduled for release in 2011.
Bonus news: Johnny Depp as possible young Frank – stay tuned.
